10 Superstar Tips for the Starting Blogger

Welcome to Day 1 of Blogging Information Week! I have been blogging officially with College is Love since November 11, 2011. This is quite a long time, and  honestly can't believe I have been blogging this long. I blogged before CiL, but nothing ever stuck and I always ended up quitting or getting frustrated. Blogging is not always an easy thing to do. Today I am going to share 10 Superstar Tips for the Starting Blogger!

10 Superstar Tips For The Starting Blogger | Being a new blogger is always difficult, but with my tips you can  learn how to be a better blogger from the start. Click through to learn my top 10 tips for the starting blogger so you can make a splash with your content.

1. Stick with it

Throughout my life this has been the hardest thing for me to do. Even with College is Love there are times when I will get super frustrated at the way my blog is going and I would stop writing. Your readership isn't going to come to you in a day. You may have to try it a million times before something sticks--and that is okay. Just keep swimming!

2. Join a blogger network

My personal favorites? Her Campus Blogger Network! Joining a blogging network is a wonderful way to gain opportunities, meet new friends, and connect your blog to a larger population of people. There are tons of blogger networks out there and they all serve the same purpose. Getting you connected with awesome people that can help you and your blog grow!

3. Be open

Blogging, even if you never become the best of the best, is going to open doors for you. Be open to walk through those doors and take the opportunities that might come your way. My blog has connected me to a crazy amount of people that I probably never would have known and given me a crazy amount of opportunities!

4. Keep it consistent

This goes along the lines of sticking with it! Find a blogging schedule that works for you and stick with it as much as you possibly can. School may get in the way every blue moon and you may have a slight panic attack every once and a while--but keep calm! You are an amazing sunflower! Just re-arrange your blogging schedule a bit--but keep it all pretty smooth!

5. Chose a good platform for you

When I first started blogging Tumblr was a great platform for me. I still love Tumblr with all my heart--I mean where else can I bop aimlessly on the internet for hours cause everyday I'm tumblin'? At the end of the day though, this is my blog and I can't be afraid to make risky moves. Yes it sucks because I lost 300+ followers by switching platforms! My blog was outgrowing Tumblr's platform though, so I had to move to one that would work for me. #noragrets

I have been around to many different platforms from Tumblr to Blogger to Wordpress and finally to Squarespace where both of my blogs currently live. You have to choose which platform would work best for you and sometimes that takes time to accomplish. Check out this video I created a few months ago about choosing the best platform for you:

6. Blog about topics you like

Yes, there are certain topics that tend go viral pretty quickly, and that's fine and dandy, but don't do it for the page views. If you are constantly worrying about what will gain you the most views you aren't in it for the sake of creating content you are proud of. Blog about topics you like and start promoting!

7. Social media is your friend

Don't be afraid to start a Facebook page, get active on Twitter, or post your stuff on Pinterest. You can gain a lot of views just by being active on social media sites. Yes, it is daunting--but it is also possible to create super fun online communities.

8. Your family/friends are more supportive than you know

I know this by experience. I started blogging during the first semester of my freshman year, but I didn't really tell anyone until last semester. I did it little by little, and now it's just a fact that everyone kind of knows about me. My name is Amanda and I blog for a lot of websites. It wasn't an easy thing to do--but I started with people I was closest to and worked my way out. Now people know all about my blog and will often ask me what I am blogging about!

9. Learn from other blogs

The best thing that you can do as a blogger is read other blogs. You don't have to do this all the time, but other bloggers, especially those who have been blogging for a while can be super helpful. Just read through their blogs, leave great comments, and be an awesome reader. Just like people who read books often write well creatively; people who read blogs write great blogs!

10. Respond to readers

Even if you only get a few readers every blue moon--always try to respond back! Even if you are just thanking them for reading or leaving a short comment, it really helps retain readers. Don't be afraid to initiate a conversation with the people who are reading your work. I am sure they will appreciate having a great experience with you!

I hope these tips were helpful for you! If you know anyone who is interested in starting a blog pass this on to them! Let me know in the comment section, what are your favorite tips to give to beginning bloggers?
